SKY「Point of View」

SAN BANCHO GALLERY is pleased to present “Point of View,” a solo exhibition by SKY.


This exhibition takes art history as one point of view, layering the artist’s own perspective with those of each viewer, and poses a question about the very act of observation itself.

As we grow into adulthood within society, we often begin to prioritize who we are expected to be and the roles we are asked to play. Saying that we like what we like, or allowing ourselves to be genuinely moved in moments of joy, gradually seems to be replaced by external evaluations and imposed value systems.

SKY’s works invite viewers to return to perspectives that are easily lost amid such changes—recalling the things that once made our hearts race in childhood for no clear reason, and the moments we simply found joyful.

While affirming these feelings as they are, the artist overlays the compositions with subtle touches and structures that reflect the thoughtfulness and sensitivity that come with adulthood.

In “Point of View,” art history serves as the starting point, reexamined through SKY’s own perspective and re-presented as a flowing narrative.


The central new work (F50) arranges art history in chronological order within a structure reminiscent of a toy shelf filled with cherished objects—an accumulation of things the artist loves.

Motifs such as figurines, LEGO bricks, capsule toys (gachapon), snow globes, and puzzles are depicted in alignment with different periods of art history, arranged as symbols of the play and aspiration that once made our hearts flutter in childhood.


LEGO, with its ability to dismantle the world and rebuild it, continuously changes form without a single correct answer. This quality reflects an understanding of art history not as a completed narrative, but as something that can be reconstructed again and again. In contrast, capsule toys symbolize chance and encounter—the excitement and anticipation of not knowing what will appear evokes the pure thrill of childhood, suggesting that encounters with art history are not always systematic, but often fragmentary and accidental.

A snow globe, meanwhile, represents a small world that encloses time. When shaken, snow swirls briefly before slowly settling, mirroring how the past and history are repeatedly stirred and reinterpreted through the lens of the present.


Through these motifs, SKY reconsiders art history not as knowledge or authority, but as the sense of wonder and enjoyment felt upon first encounter.

Within art history—layered over time—SKY depicts his own position by observing it playfully, contemplatively, and with curiosity.


This exhibition brings together a bird’s-eye view of art history, a perspective that embraces childlike wonder, and the viewpoint of an individual living in the present. By standing before the works, viewers are invited to reconsider from which position—and through what point of view—they themselves are seeing the world.

SKY -スカイ-


Born in 1987, Hiroshima, Japan

Using ducks (rubber ducks) as his primary motif, the artist depicts adults who retain a childlike heart.

Influenced by the era around the 1950s, when Andy Warhol was active, his work questions the state in which adults become constrained by fixed ideas and unable to express themselves freely. Through his imagery, he explores moments of playfulness, curiosity, and the act of reaching beyond oneself—experiences that accompany growing up.

Just as the mallard became domesticated into the duck—its wings growing smaller while gaining the ability to stand upright—the duck serves as a symbol of adults who continue to change as they age.
