The 4th Yayoi Kusama Exhibition

SAN BANCHO GALLERY is pleased to present the 4th edition of the Yayoi Kusama Exhibition.

This exhibition will feature and offer for sale original works, prints, and sculptures by Yayoi Kusama, one of Japan’s leading contemporary artists. On view will be her iconic pumpkin works, as well as her net paintings—considered the origin of her practice and created during her time in New York in her twenties—offering a rare opportunity to trace the trajectory of her artistic career.

In addition, this exhibition will present, for the first time, portrait photographs of Yayoi Kusama taken by photographer Michiko Matsumoto. These works are part of Matsumoto’s representative portrait series, created between the 1970s and 1990s, in which she visited female subjects in their homes and workplaces to photograph them. We invite you to view these rare portraits capturing Kusama at a time when she was still relatively unknown.
