SANBANCHO GALLERY is pleased to present "Ride on Islands", the first solo exhibition by tempera painter Kaori Tamura.
The theme of the exhibition is observing the island's scenery and nature, and depicting its appeal from a new perspective. It is based on the modern-day sensibility of imagining nature in a restricted space, as seen in Japanese dry landscape gardens, and enriching the soul. It conveys the message that our daily lives and the world can be enriched by cherishing respect for what we can see and imagination for what we cannot.
Ride on Islands
-Getting on the island-
"Ride on Islands" is a work by Kaori Tamura that explores new perspectives on islands by observing the island nation and depicting an expanded landscape.
In the work, an island takes root in the sea, boobies fly through the sky and cultivate the island, and mountains sit like living creatures and store water.
As the seasons change, harsh elements like monsters appear.
Taking the dry landscape garden of Japanese culture as an example, people in the past created landscapes that resembled the sea and islands by using sand and stones in restricted spaces, and looking at the islands from the sky, and they would walk through these landscapes and enjoy the view to calm their minds.
I believe that we, who are part of this same movement, can make the world a richer place by keeping in mind in our daily lives the respect for what we can see and the imagination for what we cannot see.
-About green-
Research suggests that the main component of the mantle that covers the Earth's core is peridotite.
Peridotite is light green, which means there may be a deep green world beneath the soil.
We stand on it.
By scraping away the surface of the work, I was able to excavate that world, letting my creative desire creep beneath my feet.
